Word Choice
Every nation has favorite words, sayings, or works of literature and because of this word choice is extremely important when trying to create a believable setting. Swift has a wonderful style when it comes to picking words that one could believe. He does not use "bloody" ten thousand times like a foreigner would do to make fun of the British. Instead he uses a slightly more pure form of English That being said, he does use the word bloody a couple times but it is nothing to where a reader would get nauseous. The word choice seemed like what one would actually hear in England.
Chapter Composition
In both novels Swift employs chapter sizing and layout as a vehicle for ideas. Most often he uses longer chapters to create a setting, or rising action with shorter chapters that follow. These short chapters tend to have a very high concentration of meaning and it is very easy to miss. After finishing my second novel I will say it is actually quite nice.
Description
I think it is interesting to note that Mr. Swift has many graphic events in his novels such as abortions, death, hospitalization and sex yet he does not become burdened with giving readers the most gratuitous explanation. The event that are written into a chapter often are used to shape the character, or to break the model idea a reader could create of a character. The swearing in his novels is used to showcase emotion and not just for the fact of being presented or debasing the novel to a readers desires. His novels are used to transport ideas on often complex subjects that intertwine human emotion with logic and do not present a need for an overkill of obscene words.
