Born in London only four years after the second world war Graham Swift attended Dulwich college, Cambridge, and York University. His third, and most acclaimed book, Waterland really stamped his seal into the literary culture of not only Britain but the world. Last Orders (1996) won him the Booker Prize and other fiction prizes.
Currently he still resides in London, although little is known about his future plans and novels. He has been named one of the top 20 "young British authors" of 1983 by the Literary British Council. Also, he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
